As Refreshing as the Morning Dew

Long, long ago, even before time began, God designed the blueprints for the universe. And on that day–oh glorious day!–that He created the earth, He spoke everything into existence, and it was so.

Today, if we open our eyes and hearts to examine God’s creation, we discover many important and amazing things about who God is, how great is His love for us, and how tender His plans for us really are.

Have you ever considered the morning dew? If you think about it, dew is a pretty amazing thing. It just appears out of nowhere. Seeming almost magical, it is suddenly there–sparkling like diamonds on a field in the early morning light. Refreshing miniature drops of water cling to each little strand of grass and flower, yet no rain fell during the night. How did the dew appear? Where did it come from? What is its source?

The hand of God.

Long ago before the creation of the world, God designed a precious system of daily refreshment and renewal and sustenance for even the most barren of deserts. He created dew–a gentle, beautiful life-giving source of water that appears new every morning.

There are many verses in the Bible about dew:
Genesis 27:28–May God always give you plenty of dew for healthy crops and good harvests of grain and wine.

Exodus 16:13–The next morning the desert all around the camp was wet with dew.

Job 29:19-20–For I am like a tree whose roots reach the water, whose branches are refreshed with the dew. New honors are constantly bestowed on me, and my strength is continually renewed.

Psalm 110:3–Your vigor will be renewed each day like the morning dew.

Hosea 14:5–I will be to Israel like refreshing dew from heaven. It will blossom like the lily; it will send roots deep into the soil like the cedars in Lebanon.

Dew is just one example in creation that is a picture of the wonderful times of refreshment that God has waiting for us each and every day. It is not a pool of water where we can come and drink long draughts after weary days of travel. No, it is a daily thing. Just enough to meet the needs for the day.

Meeting with God one hour each day is much like the dew. He gives us our portion of life-giving water to live the abundant life for that day. He renews our strength to meet the trials and the tests of that day. He refreshes us and restores our hope and reveals to us His perspective on the situations we face that day. He encourages us to continue on our journey with Him–one more day.

So come! Lift up your face to the Lord and worship His glorious name. Let the dew of His presence fall upon you and sparkle like diamonds in your eyes and heart. Spend an hour in His presence today and tomorrow and the next day. Discover the secret of living the abundant life, day after glorious day!
